Cat's Claw
Article
Cat's Claw, also called Una de Gato, is a world class herb. It grows in the jungles of Peru, and has been used by the Peruvian Indians to treat health problems for hundreds of years. Research in Peru, Germany; Austria; England, Italy and Switzerland, suggests that Cat's Claw may be beneficial in the treatment of cancer, arthritis, bursitis, rheumatism, herpes zoster, allergies, ulcers, systemic candidiasis, PMS and irregularities of the female cycle, environmental toxic poisoning, numerous intestinal and bowel disorders, acne and other skin disorders, organic depression, and those infected with HIV virus. Cat's Claw can also rid the body of excess yeast. If you have 3 or more of these symptoms, (Allergies, Depression, Constipation, Joint Pain, Chronic Fatigue, Sweet Cravings) then you may have excess yeast.
With Cat's Claw, only three capsules per day, (1,000 mg), produces results. So for, there are no reported side effects. According to Dr. Brent W. Dais, D.C., Cat's Claw has the ability to cleanse the entire intestinal tract. It also seemingly helps patients suffering from many different stomach and bowel disorders including, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, leaky bowel syndrome, colitis, hemorrhoids, fistulas, gastritis, ulcers, parasites, and intestinal flora imbalance. With its ability to benefit the immune system, Cat's Claw's therapeutic applications, surpass herbs such as Golden Seal, Echinacea, Pu de Arco, Astragulas and Siberian Ginseng, as well as other natural products.
In 1988 at the International Congress on Traditional medicines in Lima, Peru, medical doctors discussed Una de Gato as one of a number of different herbs used consistently to cure cancer and other serious disorders. One Peruvian physician spoke about his and his colleagues' successes with Una de Gato and other herbs in treating 14 types of accurately diagnosed cancer in 700 patients between 1984 and 1988. In his article titled "A New World Class Herb", Dr. Davis talks about his observation of Cat's Claw's ability to break through severe intestinal derangement's that no other available products can touch. He comes to this conclusion after treating approximately 150 patients from 1988 until 1992.
According to folklore, the inner bark and root of the vine contain similar properties. Stripping the bark from the vine does not destroy the plant, however, cutting the root will cause the vines to die.
In July 1989, a U.S. Patent (#4,844,901) was issued to an Austrian inventor for isolating the main component of Cat's Claw. The technical patent states that this compound "is suitable for the unspecified stimulation of the immune system". Other researchers discovered 7 different alkaloids found in one variety of Cat's Claw, all credited with a variety of medicinal and healing properties. The one mostly benefiting the immune system is believed to be Isopteropodine. Isopteropodine (Isomer A) has sparked the interest of scientists who are working toward the development of new drugs to treat AIDS.
The presence of quinovic acid glycosides, proanthocyanidins, and the plant steroid Beta-sitosterol might explain the anti-viral, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties attributed to this herb. According to Dr. Richard Gerber, MD., author of"Vibrational Healing", a highly acclaimed, best selling book on holistic medicine, Cat's Claw is a unique herb used for many years by native healers in Peru. The herb shows great promise for the treatment of arthritis when taken internally, either by tea or capsules. European researchers found the herb is very low in toxicity even in large amounts. It may be especially useful for individuals who suffer joint pain, and cannot take conventional arthritis medicines.
Preliminary studies from Europe also suggest that Cat's Claw benefits other health problems such as digestive disorders, adjunctive treatments for cancer, and boosting the immune system. Early investigations suggest that Cat's Claw may even be helpful if used in conjunction with conventional radiation and chemotherapy to minimize nausea and other side effects associated with cancer treatments. In the words of Dr. Brent Davis, "Uncaria tomentosa is a world class herb which has the power to arrest and reverse deep seated pathology, allowing a more rapid return to health in the context of concomitant Applied Kinesio-logy therapies."
