Thermogenesis Article
Thermogenesis is a natural metabolic function. It can be induced by increasing the function of muscle cells either voluntarily through exercise (any voluntary muscular movement), or involuntarily through shivering, as when an individual experiences cold temperatures. A second form of thermogenesis does not occur in muscle cells, but metabolically in a special organ of the body called Brown Adipose Tissue, or BAT. The primary function of BAT thermogenesis, like shivering, is to maintain the body's temperature. BAT thermogenesis is extremely important since the process produces heat by burning fat from the food we eat and fat stores in our body. AM-300 directly enhances BAT thermogenesis, and indirectly stimulates muscular thermogenesis by enhancing energy levels. It is interesting to note that there is definitive decrease in BAT and BAT function with age. Also, obese individuals undergo natural thermogenesis at a less frequent rate than their lean counterparts. After eating, most people see a lasting rise in their metabolism and energy production amounting to a rate of approximately 10-20% of normal. According to Dr. Dallas Clouatre, overweight individuals do not experience this post meal thermogenesis for some unknown reason. A cooling of the ambient temperature to 72 degrees is enough to cause BAT stimulation and in normal individuals to thermogenically produce heat. Obese individuals have a higher tolerance for cooling temperatures. They do not need to induce thermogenesis as frequently as leaner individuals in order to keep warm. Individuals prone to obesity also have an inherent lower basal metabolic rate by nature. People who are on a calorie restricted diet in an attempt to lose weight, have a tendency for their bodies to compensate by slowing down their metabolism and natural rate of thermogenesis. Thermogenic aids can benefit many of these preexisting conditions occurring with age, obesity and dieting.
