There is no real secret or trick to weight loss. However, it can be hard, and any weight loss program should be applied properly to be safe and effective. Always start off by consulting with your physician about any program or product.  

To understand how to protect muscle while reducing those pounds, take a look at what happens to the food we eat, while we fill out our fulsome figures. The food we eat can turn into three different fates: First, it can fuel the body for it's day to day activities, supplying energy for movement and metabolic processes.  Secondly, know as lipogenesis, enters your body as stored fat, a safeguard where your body saves up energy to compensate for possible food shortages. The third is to power what is called "wasting cycles." In this process, calories may be incinerated in muscles, the liver or in special fat tissue called brown fat.

Unlike other kinds of fat which are metabolically inactive, brown fat helps you use up calories. Spread out throughout the body, this kind of fat tissue helps turn "excess dietary calories" (EDC) into heat rather than extra inches. EDC gives birth to virtually all weight/fat problems. These food calories, left over at the end of the day, are often turned into fat cells.  Thus our Problem!

The body is designed to never run out of fuel except after long periods of starvation.  Therefore the body's basal metabolic rate (BMR, the speed at which your body burns calories) constantly adjusts to how much you eat and how much energy you use up and always allows a few extra, spare calories to be available for emergencies. Losing Weight via Thermogenesis

Since brown fat is diffused throughout the body, EDC can enter it quickly and easily from just about any anatomical location. Because of special protein contained in brown fat EDC can be completely destroyed (converted into heat) by brown fat in a matter of seconds. This conversion process is termed thermogenesis. To be effective, a weight reducing method should reduce the EDC. There are several ways to achieve this. 1 - Eating less, 2 - Exercise, 3 - Supplements. Although all three are effective in reducing weight, some methods are more difficult than others. Supplements flood the market, due to our eating and exercising habits.  It seems that our lives are too busy, to control both at proper levels to stay lean and healthy.  

The best program, and results are obtained by combining all three into your daily activities.  Most people want to just take a supplement to combat that excess fat.  While effective, the most desirable results can be achieved by doing all three at moderate levels.   2. Next chart your progress - Don't second guess how well you are doing, keep track of your progress, it helps to know for sure how well you are doing, and when you notice the difference.

  4. Start taking walks, it doesn't have to be every day, maybe twice per week starting out, or more if you are already energetic. Other physical activity is just as good, the point is help burn some of those fat cells. 
  5. Drink plenty of fluids, mainly water. Water helps cleans your body of impurities, and good for flushing the bodies system.
  6. Watch your food intake.  It's not necessary to just plain go on a diet, but it makes sense, that combined with the above, watching your food intake can only improve your results.  Although great results can be obtained with steps 3,4, and 5, giving that extra can't hurt.  So many times, we want to let the supplements do all the work, by putting all four methods together, you will surely see good results.
