YO-YO Dieting Article
Combating the Yo-Yo-Diet Syndrome
Why Diets Don't Work
Most dieters, who achieve significant weight loss, lose far too much (approximately 30%) lean body mass (muscle and organic tissue). This not only diminishes strength and agility, but affects appearance as well. With less muscle, pleasing curves flatten, chests sink, and arms and legs look spindly. Making things worse, this lessened lean body mass lowers the metabolic rate, making it harder to keep the fat off permanently. This is known as the yo-yo diet syndrome. Deprivation leads to binge eating. Develop a common sense approach to your meals, concentrating on good nutrition.
Weight LossTips :
Use substitutes such as Splenda instead of sugar. 2 percent milk instead of whole milk. Eat at least two fruits a day. Snack only on fruits or raw vegetables such as carrot and celery sticks. Prepare them ahead of time, keep them in the refrigerator so they are ready to eat when you want a snack. Get the sweets out of the house if you can't leave them alone. Limit your portion of meat to approximately the size of a deck of cards. Make meat the smallest helping on your plate. Get some exercise. Walk. Climb stairs. Park and walk a block to your destination instead of looking for the closest parking space. Join a gym with low impact exercise. Curves International is an excellent place to obtain a cardiovascular workout and exercise every muscle in your body. You will meet friends there, too! Great support group, too.
