Healthy Walking Lifestyle
There's no getting away from it, walking is one of the nicest ways of keeping healthy, fit and in trim when it is done the right way. Most people associate walking with a slow amble through the shopping mall that must be endured along with the crowds of other amblers. But real walking that is healthy and vitality giving is nothing of the sort, as we shall see in this article.
Walking outdoors, which is the kind that is best for you in a number of ways, is health giving and can even boost your overall mental mood. Let's see why this is.
Natural Daylight
The first benefit of getting outdoors and walking a reasonable distance is that you are providing your body with much needed natural daylight. You might say that this is nonsense, but in truth, scientific studies have proved that spending a half hour or more each day in natural sunlight boosts the body's production of serotonin, which is our very own self manufactured feel good hormone. It lifts our mood and can even dispel depression in patients that spend nearly all their time indoors. It also exposes us to the sunlight which in small doses is good for us in a number of ways.
Most importantly, we need to be exposed to around 20 minutes or so of natural sunlight each day to produce the optimum amount of vitamin D that our bodies need. Vitamin D has in recent studies been linked to body weight. A lack of it is linked with obesity, while having the right amount of it is linked with better weight management and a better chance of weight loss success if you are trying to lose weight.
Fresh Air
Being cooped up indoors all day is not healthy for a number of reasons. Not least of these is that we are not getting sufficient fresh air into our lungs. This results in lower levels of oxygen with higher levels of carbon dioxide in our bodies. That leads to a lowering of metabolism with a greater feeling of lethargy and tiredness.
On the flip side, more fresh air means we are getting more oxygen and less carbon dioxide, which promotes higher energy levels and alertness. Getting outdoors into the fresh air also gives us a chance to meet new people, get acquainted with neighbors and make new friends, which also boosts our mood and makes us feel good. It also means getting some of the weight loss basics that will help in achieving a better, healthier and slimmer body.
Walking is Exercise
Of course, walking at a moderate to moderately fast pace for an extended period of time will boost our body's consumption of energy (calories) while increasing the strength of our muscles. It is a good form of exercise especially for those people who cannot do more strenuous forms. If you are a man or a woman losing weight, this is a great way to do that.
When we feel better and more alive, we are prone to want to do more physical activities. This further increase our body's ability to shed weight and promote good health.
